Product/Service: Automating the Quantification and Forecasting Of Essential Drugs in Public Facilities in Kenya
Award: Health Care Delivery
Founders: Hoffman Lantum, Mary Matu, Dr. John Munyu
Founded: 2012

Public dispensaries and health centres provide 80% of care in Kenya, yet they are ill-equipped to accurately forecast and efficiently order supplies. Current manual systems result in stock-outs and the purchase of drugs in the open market, where drugs are sometime 300% more expensive and up to 30% of them are counterfeit. The current practice requires health workers to fill a form with 1,440 calculations. Errors and non-compliance result in delayed orders for drugs. This further complicates the Kenya Medical Supply Authority’s work by oversupplying or undersupplying health facilities. This is a major cause for patient dissatisfaction.

The automation of this process makes the delivery of drugs timely and efficient and provides effective patient care all over the country.
